Biography

Believing that education illuminates all paths, this philosophy guides Trace’s work. Bringing two decades of public school teaching to the Tennessee Reading Research Center (TRRC), Trace writes copy, manages the website and social media accounts, and assists with design, branding, and communications in and out of the TRRC. Trace carries a bachelor’s degree in art education, a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and MBA with a concentration in marketing.

Biography

A lifelong advocate for educational innovation and literacy, Emily Beyer studied International Development and Spanish Literature at Kenyon College. Before joining TRRC, Emily taught Spanish to middle school students in Knoxville and completed a Fulbright language teaching grant in Argentina. As the Varied Practice Reading project manager, she facilitates opportunities for students to build literacy skills using an innovative and engaging curriculum.

Statistician Research Assistant Professor

Biography

Dr. Zhang is a research assistant professor at the Tennessee Reading Research Center (TRRC). His research centers on the development and application of experimental and quasi-experimental methods to address substantive questions in education research, evaluation, and policy, such as the development and extension of propensity score analysis and applying cutting-edge quantitative approaches to evaluate the causal effects of several educational interventions. At the TRRC, Dr. Zhang is responsible for applying a variety of methodological and modern statistical approaches to answering questions about literacy development, instruction, and assessment.

Biography

Hannah is an avid reader and passionate advocate for educational literacy. Before joining the center, she worked as an educator for Hamblen and Knox County schools. While teaching, she earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Carson-Newman University and holds a Reading Specialist license. In her current role, Hannah is the project manager for the Reading 360 project and manages the day-to-day operations of the center.

Biography

Dr. Gibbs is a research assistant professor at the Tennessee Reading Research Center (TRRC). Her research interests include effective practices for literacy instruction and how early intervention can improve reading outcomes and overall academic achievement for students with reading difficulties. At the TRRC, Anna leads literacy content development and supports the center’s literacy research, including the literacy evaluation studies of the Reading 360 initiatives.

Biography

Dr. Reed earned her Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2010. She currently serves as the Director of the Tennessee Reading Research Center: A Reading 360 Initiative at the University of Tennessee where she is a Professor on faculty. Dr. Reed’s work has been funded by state education agencies, private foundations, and the Institute of Education Sciences. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Reed spent the first 10 years of her career as an English language arts and reading teacher as well as a preK-12 reading specialist, working primarily with students from diverse backgrounds who were exhibiting serious reading difficulties. She has been conducting research on literacy since 2006 and has provided technical assistance in numerous states since 2003.
