The Tennessee Literacy Success Act (TLSA), established in 2021, elevated the standards for teachers’ literacy knowledge and their students’ academic performance. This legislation requires that educators possess a deeper understanding of literacy concepts and effectively apply this knowledge to enhance student outcomes.
We evaluated the effects of teachers’ level of participation in the Early Reading Training (ERT) courses provided by the Tennessee Department of Education on their kindergarten and 1st-grade students’ reading performance in the 2022–23 academic year. The results highlight the impact of ongoing teacher training on students’ reading success.
